Clay is a really special material to me: it is soft in its natural state and firm after it has been through fire. It is both strengthened and weakened by external forces. It came from the earth and it has the power of keeping me grounded and humble. The versatility of clay as a material is why I made it my primary language in artistic expression.
My work reflects my attempt to create a collective visual representation of my raw emotions and thoughts, drawn from personal narratives and sociological observations. An exploration conflates material and human emotions. I carefully analyze those emotions and thoughts from my experience and materialize it through the creative process.
My current work is provoked by a surge of self-awareness, an awakening to the duality in my identity, after a trip to Jingdezhen, China. The work reflects what I experienced emotionally while living and practicing there.
