A Domestic Waste Management Unit
'Bukentsu' is a domestic waste management unit designed for flat residents in London in order to facilitate the daily activity of waste separating and recycling at home, as there has been a persisting issue with the overflowing communal waste and recycling collection bins and lack of food composting service. The name came from the Japanese word for classification.
I intend to investigate if waste management behaviour can be ritualized through product design and aim to deliver a product-based design solution.
The designed was inspired by the Japanese Lacquer Picnic Set from V&A. The compartmentalization in the design of the set reflected a particular emphasis in functionality and organization in Japanese culture.
